A Simple Tip to Relax Your Neck While Driving!

Hey guys, its Allyson from CORE and this is my fabulous assistant Alayna… I wanted to talk to you guys about a cool little exercise that you can work into your day… Super Easy!

Everybody knows that we carry physical stress in our bodies and it looks different in different people. But this exercise is for those people like myself that carry a lot of their stress in their neck and shoulders, tight chest and neck and then sometimes into your jaw…

This exercise is going to get to these shoulder blades in the back and its going to be super easy to work in your day.

So I’m thinking about busy moms that are in car pools driving…

I’m thinking about people that have jobs that travel a lot, and they’re in the car for long trips…

Sometimes just a quick trip to Trader Joe’s to the store and you’ve got five minutes in the car, you might as well multitask and get some exercise that’s going to make you feel better and decrease your stress…

So this is our pretend steering wheel and what you’re going to do with the steering wheel is actually hold on at 4 and 8 o’clock and then I want you to pull your thumbs out to the side.

You know you can keep your hands on the steering wheel and you can point the thumbs out… that’s what I do.

You want to be pulling your thumbs out and then pulling your shoulders wide. Kind of like you’re pulling at your elbows, but as you can see with Alayna here, her elbows aren’t actually moving. Nothing’s really moving the steering wheels not moving but she’s got a lot of work going on back in her shoulder blades. You’re going to feel it between your shoulder blades in your rhomboids and your shoulder blades should be moving down your back.

So you might also see your shoulders start to crunch up… yeah, she’s not up in here. She’s not even up here. She’s relaxed with length in that neck and her scapula. So you just inhale and then exhale as you pull out on that steering wheel and then inhale you can relax a little bit and feel the oxygen in your shoulders… exhale Pull out again… there you go…

And you can see her shoulders and chest getting wider and open when she does it…

So that’s just a cool thing to do when you’re in the car because all of us are!

See you next time…
