Why Did You Become A Pilates Instructor? The Team Answers…

The team at CORE answers a common question: “Why did you become a Pilates Instructor?”

Cheryl Dunn: I have to fess up, the reason I originally got into teaching movement was because I really wanted to get paid to exercise. Because I like to exercise, I like to move and I thought, what better way to do it than to get paid to do it. That’s not going to sustain you for that long… so then I started seeing how much it benefited all the people that I work with, how they really liked it. They felt better… I was encouraging people and changing people’s lives and so that’s what sustains me…

Allyson Marshall: I went through Cheryl’s teacher training (at CORE) because I started working here honestly. It’s such a big part of how we get people healthy again and active… I needed to learn how to do it, but in doing it I realized that I started waking up and my neck doesn’t crunch every time I turn it, I started to feel a whole lot better while I was running and doing some cycling and swimming. So really for me, the Pilates work… I hope to give this to the people that I see for Physical Therapy. It gets them back doing the stuff that they love, which may or may not be Pilates. It will help them maintain that lifestyle that they were doing before they got injured…

Alexis Kistler: The reason why I originally became a GYROTONIC(R) Instructor was because I wanted to find something that fulfills me as much as the physical therapy fulfilled me. Knowing that I wouldn’t get licensed in the states, I wanted to find something where I could still be in service to people. Where I could, you know, heal people through movement and help them achieve their goal and heal their bodies, heal their minds. Gyrotonic did that for me and and so I wanted to bring that to the masses so to speak. I love teaching this every day, I love seeing the progress and I love the feedback that I get for my clients…

Julie Fields: I originally got certified to teach Pilates because I had finally found a movement and exercise program that I, one enjoyed doing myself and also fixed all of my faulty movement patterns. Then I became very evangelical that I thought if it fixed me it could fix a whole lot of other people. Then I found out that I really enjoyed being around people who enjoyed doing this movement. So I come to this work every day by being around like-minded people who enjoy moving and use this to be functionally fit… and hopefully just a little happier in their everyday life…

Alayna Brenckley: I became a Pilates and Gyrotonic instructor originally because I came out of a dance background and used Pilates for years as cross-training. When I had to stop dancing I thought how can I make money and not sit at a desk? So I got certified and now I think what’s propelling me forward is I have found a lot of joy in movement myself and so I want to bring that joy to other people. Maybe they live an active lifestyle or maybe they’re sitting at a desk… but how can they find a lot of joy out of moving in so much expansion that they feel like every cell comes alive and buzzes with energy for those 55 minutes that they’re here for a class or a private, so that’s why I like to teach…

Celeste Knickerbocker: I became a Pilates and Gyrotonic Instructor because I always enjoyed moving myself so much. It always felt so good and healing to me so I wanted to share that feeling with the world and let them experience it somehow as well. Now that I am in this profession, I have been validated more times than I ever expected because of the positive effects that the movement has had in my clients bodies. I’m happy that I followed my passion to become a Pilates and Gyrotonic Instructor…
