One of the most popular sports and the fastest-growing sports in the US is pickleball. My name is Stephen Dunn, I’m a holistic physical therapist and clinical pilates instructor and I’ve helped many patients in recent years get back to pickleball after an injury…

What is Pickleball?

According to NPR , Pickleball is a combination of tennis, badminton, and ping pong invented in the mid-’60s in Washington State by 3 dads. Fast forward 57 years and there are now 4.8 million people playing compared to just half of that 5 years ago.

What kind of injuries in have I seen?

I have seen mostly back and knee injuries associated with pickleball from my clients. The stop-and-go motions, the quick lateral steps, and lunges all with twisting the spine repeatedly with every swing.

What can I do to get back to Pickleball at 100%?

The first thing to do is get a Physical Therapy evaluation of your injury and how the musculoskeletal system could be affected by it and compensation. Then a treatment plan can be devised based on your personal history and present condition. Improved Strength, flexibility, and return to recreation is the goal with PT.
